Top 15 Luxury Beauty Items of 2017

Ok! It’s time to get bougie up in here! Some of these products were not “new” in 2017, but were the best luxury items that were continual faves throughout the year. They are a collection of products that I (continually) opened up my wallet for because of their quality, effectiveness and overall holy grail status. If you are not familiar with items holding “holy grail status”, I suggest you go down the rabbit hole of YouTube reviews to get yourself an idea.

#1 Clarisonic Mia 2 Sonic Cleansing Device

FullSizeRender

I actually bought my Clarisonic Mia 2 Sonic Cleansing Device from my dermatologist five years ago. The appointment went something like this: I went in for a laser hair removal treatment (#italianproblems) and came out with a three hundred dollar face washing machine. You will come to learn that this is the story of my life 🙂 I will be real with you – I am a total sucker for a gimmick, so when I saw the video explaining how it cleans your skin 6 times better than fingers alone, I was sold. You can imagine how pleasantly surprised I was when this product actually delivered! I have found that I use far less product and my skin feels so clean after using it, but never tight or dry. As someone who has struggled with acne prone skin for the better part of half her life, this device has been a lifesaver. You can select from sensitive, radiant, delicate or deep pore brush heads depending on your skin type. Clarisonic also recently upped their game when they released their foundation brush head – see below as this gem also makes my luxury list.

#2 Eminence Organic Skin Care Clear Skin Probiotic Cleanser

A friend of mine introduced me to the Eminence Organic Skin Care line about two years ago and I absolutely loved the idea that this skin care line is all but handcrafted and uses organic ingredients. Do you remember what I said about gimmicks? Exactly 🙂 All joking aside, I have used dozens of clarifying products for acne prone skin over the years and they all were so drying. My pimples would lessen but my skin would look bleached and scaly. Not a great look. When I started using the Eminence Clear Skin Probiotic Cleanser, I not only felt super adult at the fact that I was using a product that included so many of my fave buzz words (organic, natural, hand-made, cruelty-free etc.) but my skin actually started to calm down and clear up. I highly recommend this cleanser, especially if you older than 35 and still prone to hormonal acne from time to time.

#3 Tatcha The Water Cream

*sigh* You guys, I really wanted to hate this cream. I initially received it as a free sample from Sephora and of course fell in love with it. At $82 for 50 mL this is about as bougie as you can get. There is nothing I hate more than that gross, greasy feeling of a thick, oily moisturizer, but this cream is oil-free, anti-aging and so light. It absorbs super quick into the skin and leaves you feeling refreshed and extra AF. I am going to be 37 this year so spending a little extra on skincare is just the way things go. If you are under the age of 30, literally any drugstore moisturizer will do just fine.

#4 Vichy Labratories Dermablend Smooth Liquid Camo Foundation

An esthetician told me about Vichy Dermablend Smooth Liquid Camo Foundation about eight years ago but it still holds its status as one of the best full coverage foundations out there. This foundation technically says it is medium coverage, and compared to Vichy’s Cream Foundation it is, but compared to other foundations out there I would classify it as full coverage. Liquid Camo will cover everything from acne, acne scars, birthmarks to tattoos. It is truly incredible. The formula blends evenly and despite its full coverage does not feel heavy or appear cakey. I would definitely recommend applying it with an Artist style foundation brush *I linked to the real thing but please know you can get knock offs that will do the job just as well for waaaaaaay cheaper) or with the foundation attachment for the Clarisonic Mia 2 (seen below). I continually go back to this foundation, especially in the winter, when I want a flawless, fuller coverage look.

#5 Clarisonic Sonic Foundation Brush

OMG. I cannot say enough about the Clarisonic Sonic Foundation Brush!!!!!! This brush head has revolutionized the blending game. Seriously, foundation glides on with ease and if you have ever been intimidated about trying cream contour, this is the tool to experiment with. I have been using this non-stop for the last few months as it gives any foundation an amazing finish. Check out the video to see how it works!

#6 NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer

FullSizeRender_13

This is a tough recommendation given the controversy of late surrounding the decision NARS made to market their brand in China, a country known for animal testing. I am slowly transitioning myself to cruelty-free brands, but this was a product purchased before NARS announced they would be selling in China. NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer is amazing and I have yet to find a cruelty-free equivalent, even in the luxury world, that performs as well as this concealer does. I find I do not need to use any colour corrector at all when I use this concealer, it doesn’t crease and is excellent at brightening the under eye area. I know YouTubers swear by Tarte’s Shape Tape, which is a cruelty-free and vegan brand, but unfortunately it isn’t sold at Sephora’s in Canada or the US as it is an exclusive product for Ulta. It is also continually sold out on Tarte.com, but if I get my hands on some I will definitely do a first impressions video and let you know what I think.
